Help us spread compassion
throughout the world.

Service is at the heart of the Mother Teresa Project. It was Mother Teresa’s legendary compassion which drew the world to her, and it is that spirit we wish to imitate.

Mission Trips

The MTP mission trips offer a unique opportunity to serve alongside the religious congregation that Mother Teresa founded, The Missionaries of Charity.  Each mission trip is an intense service experience, centered on prayer. Students can apply for one of the many mission trips offered at various times throughout the academic year. The duration of each trip is from 7-14 days, depending on the location. The mission trips give students a tremendous chance to broaden their horizons, get to know themselves better, discover the dignity of persons everywhere, and discover the loving presence of Jesus in the poor. The cost of each mission trip has been subsidized by a generous donor, enabling more students to participate in these life-changing adventures.

Here is a glimpse of the trips we have taken throughout the years. Locations vary from year to year.

  Summer Camp Missions

The Missionaries of Charity welcome AMU student to assist with their summer camp initiatives!

Each day is centered on prayer and service to the poor. Student lead the children in games, sports, and crafts, and assist the sisters or brothers with catechism. Outside of camp hours, students help the MC’s in their homes for the poor. The summer camps range from 2 weeks to one month, depending on the needs of each location. For most locations, volunteers are provided with room and board in exchange for their service. Students are encouraged to choose a location near their homes, when possible, in order to give back to their local communities.

The different locations for 2017 are the following:

  1. Pacifica, California
  2. Sacramento, California
  3. Los Angeles, California
  4. Bronx, New York
  5. Washington D.C.
  6. St. Louis, Missouri
  7. Baton Rouge, Louisiana
  8. Charlette, North Carolina
  9. Detroit, Michigan
  10. Chicago, Illinois
  11. Boston, Massachusetts
  12. Las Matas de Farfan, Dominican Republic

Summer camp missions count as a mission trip requirement for Mother Teresa Scholars, but do not exclude you from being considered for a mission trip during the academic year.

Local Service

Whether our students are helping to build homes, serving the hungry at the soup kitchen, playing soccer and offering friendship to the children of Immokalee, offering after-school support, building a community garden, helping with the youth ministry and catechism programs at the local parish, or visiting the elderly, they are making the world a better place, one person at a time.

The program of local service takes place during the academic year, from September to April. Most service projects are posted on the Events page, where students can register for these activities. Other service opportunities, such as youth ministry and pro-life initiatives, are coordinated through student-led clubs. For information on the club-coordinated service, please contact Mother Teresa Project Service Coordinator,

For the first time ever, Residence Life is launching a campus wide competition in favor of the poor: “Champions of Charity”. Which dorm will contribute the most hours of service? Which dorm will see the participation of the highest percentage of its residents? We will find out at the end of the year! Outdo each other in generosity and be joyfully zealous in serving your neighbor (cf. Rom: 12). Midway prizes will be awarded as the year rolls forward. When you sign up for service, makes sure to add your dorm, team, and household in the comment section. Be bold to be charitable. Become the next Champions of Charity. Any questions, ask the founder, Andrew Nussbaum. #championsofcharity
